TU-26 Backfire Bomber

Name (as shown on packaging): TU-26 Backfire Bomber ("Bomber" is omitted on earlier packaging)
Color Scheme: gray
Left Wing: red star (top), red star (bottom)
Right Wing: CCCP (top), red star (bottom)
Nose: 43
Tail: red star
Date Stamp: 1988 (less paint variation) or 1989 (extra paint variation)
Variations: There is what appears to be an earlier variation that lacks both the blue paint behind the cockpit and the black paint on the horizontal stabilizers. The plastic color also appears different on the two versions but I am unsure as to whether or not this is original or an artifact of aging/yellowing.
NOTE: The Backfire Bomber was part of "Collector Series I". The extra paint variation was also available in the "ring squadron" style. The less paint variation was also available as a color changer.

Introduction

Funrise's "Micro Action" line of miniature vehicles and playsets was a contemporary competitor to Galoob's well-known "Micro Machines." As a child, I received the Funrise "Micro Action Jet Aircraft Carrier" for Christmas. The carrier also came with two miniature jets. This large but simple toy and the two tiny jets became the center of my imaginative play. Not long after, I got the Funrise "Micro Action Space Shuttle Launch Set" and NASA's shuttle joined as an integral part of the stories I played out on the floor of my room. While I had a greater number of Galoob's toys, it is the Funrise toys that I look back upon most fondly. When I wanted to reacquire these long lost toys of childhood I started looking for information on the internet. I discovered that there is not nearly as much information about "Micro Machines" as one might expect and nothing dedicated to Funrise's "Micro Action" series. As I'...

Micro Action Jet Aircraft Carrier

The "Micro Action Jet Aircraft Carrier" is both a playset and a carry/storage container for your fleet of jets. The top deck can be removed revealing a 4-compartment storage area in the hull. The deck connects to pegs on the hull via a clip at the bow and a pair of clips at the stern. I have seen examples with these clips broken off so care should always be used when attaching and detaching the deck. There are two rubber band-powered catapults on the deck (pull back the catapult until it clicks in place and press the black button to release). These rubber bands can be replaced (should they break or dry out) by unscrewing the mechanism from the underside of the deck. The island can be removed from the top deck as it simply pegs into four holes in the deck but be careful as these pegs are fragile and are often broken on loose examples (mine is missing two of the pegs). There are three black plastic accessories (a gun turret, an antenna array and a radar dish) that peg into...
